Our specialties include

L

ADHD AND ADD

Approximately 10 million adults have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In early adulthood, ADHD may be associated with depression, mood or conduct disorders and substance abuse. Adults with ADHD often cope with difficulties at work and in their personal and family lives related to

L

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

Therapy dog Samurai helps reduce clients’ anxiety, claustrophobia, depression, panic attacks, and blood pressure. Samurai also helps clients access relief from sensory overload and stress. Together, clinician Heather Bruckschen and Samurai help clients become more present, grounded, and motivated.

L

ANXIETY

Most people can relate to feeling tense, uncertain and perhaps fearful from time to time. At times, these worries can affect your sleep, appetite and ability to concentrate. Then, if everything goes well, the anxiety will go away. However, when anxiety stays at a high level for a long time, you may feel that it is difficult to deal with everyday life,

L

LGBTQAI+

CORE Behavioral Health Services recognizes the disparity that exists between Behavioral Health and LGBTQ+ communities. We strive to offer a more tailored and culturally responsive substance use and mental health service. We provide gender-affirming and responsive care for transgender, gender diverse, and intersex individuals.Data shows that LGBTQ+ populations of all ages experience far more instances of mental health and substance use disorders, suicidality, and poor well-being outcomes. It is more important than ever to have a safe space to receive support and understanding.

L

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This sometimes-overused label is meant to identify when someone has experienced a traumatic event and is struggling with nightmares, memories, intrusive thoughts, avoiding anything that reminds you of the traumatic event or general fear and hypervigilance (always on the lookout).

A traumatic event is anything that causes distress to someone who has experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. If you are struggling with recovering from experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event, we can help.

L

VETERANS

According to the SAMHSA “Every year, approximately 200,000 men and women transition out of active-duty service and return to civilian life.

This adjustment requires Veterans and their families to reorient their lives across multiple domains including employment, finances, housing, social supports, and health. Life’s transitions are inherently stressful for all of us. They produce changes in relationships and support networks, and they challenge our identities and self-perceptions.

L

CAMS

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the term for medical practices that are not part of standard medical care. Clients seeking relief from anxiety, depression, grief, stress, substance use disorder, worry, among others, may like to support their mental health with CAM.

CORE offers the following CAM Services

  • reiki energy healing
  • shamanic practice
L

DEPRESSION

The challenge with depression is that is, by far, the most common mental health diagnosis and often the most complex. Depression affects people in different ways and can cause various symptoms, ranging from mild to severe, including lasting unhappiness and hopelessness and losing interest in the things you used to enjoy. Depression can often make you feel alone and isolated, as if no one cares or understands. However, based on recent studies, depression is now globally the number one cause of disability.

L

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is proven to help individuals who experience symptoms of depression, trauma and PTSD, anxiety, addictions, phobias, and other emotional problems.

EMDR influences the way our brain processes information by releasing emotional experiences that are stuck.

A trained therapist works alongside you to recall thoughts, feelings, or memories.

L

FAMILY ISSUES

You’ve likely heard the saying “you can’t pick your family.” People repeat this saying because it’s true. We are born into our family and subject to the opinions, core beliefs, and values of that system. Sometimes our family changes and more people are added or subtracted, complicating that system in many ways. Navigating your family system and how to survive it becomes challenging and stressful. Counseling can help. Whether you come in as a family, or an individual, counseling can help you find more peace within yourself and by extension, your family.

L

GRIEF

Loss of any kind shakes up our world!  Whether we’ve lost a parent, sibling, relationship, pet, health or situation, loss can affect us in many ways.  Often, people do not grieve loss in the same way. It looks different for each person and situation.  There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Receiving help to understand your grief and identify it can be an empowering experience. Meeting with a counselor who understands grief allows you the opportunity to release the emotions associated with grief that may be causing difficulty for you at this time.

L

RELATIONSHIPS

Who would think that interacting with people could be so difficult? Relationships are tough and they take work. Whether you are struggling with a friendship, a romantic relationship, a parent/child relationship, it doesn’t matter because they all require a level of communication and understanding that is hard for us to consistently do.

What we say isn’t always what the other person hears. The way we say something isn’t always received the way we intended. This can cause challenges in getting along with others. Unfortunately, relationships can wreak havoc on our lives.

L

SELF ESTEEM / SELF WORTH

Therapy is remarkably helpful at increasing self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, focusing on strengths over weaknesses. When you have low self-esteem, you tend to see yourself, the world, and your future more negatively and critically, and you may doubt whether you will be able to rise to meet challenges. In your mind, you might talk to yourself harshly.

L

SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER

How many times have you determined you were going to change? This time is going to be the last. That Substance Use Disorder has cost you and the people you love too much, and it is time for a transformation. So, you summon all your willpower and determination, cut off all your supply and unhealthy relationships, and announce to the world that things will be different. And for a time, you do well, but once again, you are looking at this website because willpower and determination were not enough for the outcome you dream or desire.
